This free workshop is taught and sponsored by IBM Design. This workshop will be held at SVA 136 – 6th Floor, 631F
Explore the power of persuasive patters, nudges, and a behavioral approach to virtual reality interactions. This workshop will cover how design patterns nudge users toward specific outcomes and introduce an interaction library of nudges for new mediums.
Attendees will gain the following skills:
- Vocabulary of persuasive pattern terminology.
- Ethics for when to nudge and when not to nudge users.
- Ability to recognize when your behavior is being nudged.
- Selecting the appropriate nudge for new mediums that are both appropriate and ethical.
Workshop format:
- Presentation on nudges and persuasive patterns
- Delivering design prompts drawn from existing VR experiences
- Participants use the nudge best practice website to prototype a nudge to accomplish the prompt. This will involve our novel approach to VR prototyping employing a 360° camera inserted into a cylindrical environment. The cylinder will accommodate dry-erase transparencies for wireframe sketches.
- After authoring and prototyping nudges that satisfy the prompts, teams are invited to experience the existing nudges employed in published VR experiences. As a last step, attendees might submit a grade on the prototyped nudge and how it compared to the published VR experience.
